DIY RRSPs. (For better or worse)

Sick of your fund manager/financial planner getting paid the fat sack while your overall returns suffer after you were convinced to invest in that Siberian icecube plant?! I HAVE!

I have recently started an online RSP brokerage account, and am in the progress of transferring my current RRSPs into it. The way I look at it is this: You spend 8 hours a day earning money, the least you could do is take 15 minutes a day to learn how to make the money earn for you.

My current strategey is to switch into super-low MER index funds, as outlined here here and here . It looks like the way to go. Low MERs to increase your profits, large diversity, plus the ability to tailor your risk simply by choosing which index to follow. I think this adds up to a good investment strategy for RRSPs, since the portfolio is designed for stable growth over the long term. Another bonus is the low buy in cost for index funds (typically $100) which allows people like me with tiny chunk of cash to get in on the action.

I still have a ton of research left to do before I make anything concrete, but will keep updating this site with my progress.
